The Child Abuse Treatment program
is an outpatient treatment program designed for children
who
have been traumatized by
physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. Children and their
families receive both individual and group counseling
at the Center.
The Children's Center works with numerous school districts to provide on-site mental health services to children and adolescents. This program provides treatment for students with school related behavioral issues such as: poor concentration, aggressive and anti-social behaviors, temper tantrums, ADHD, oppositional and potential behavior problems.
The Center provides art therapy for children of all ages to express their anger and feelings through artwork. This allows the therapist to use the visual art (drawing, painting, sculpture and other art forms) and psychotherapy to help individuals manage emotional problems, develop interpersonal growth and achieve self-awareness.
Is a program through which clients learn about themselves and others by participating in activities with horses in an enclosed arena under the guidance of a horse professional and a therapist. These professionals help clients' process feelings, behaviors and patterns. EAP is extremely effective in working with at-risk youth and "hard-to-reach" clients, where verbal communication is constrained.

Are regularly on site at the Center and embody a loving presence for the children. The
dogs provide a feeling of safety as well as an experience
of unconditional
love for many of our kids. The dogs provide therapists teaching
opportunities on care, compassion, appropriate behavior
and boundaries.
The Center provides an Enriched Play Program to children who accompany their parent or caregiver to the Center and are in need of supervision during therapy sessions. The program contributes to the Center's overall plan to strengthen the functioning of families seen at the Center and reduces the need for children to engage in negative behaviors.
The Children's Center is the lead agency for Family Support in collaboration with Los Angeles County to provide coordinated services to strengthen and preserve families through in-home support, education, community and financial resources. The program collaborates with subcontractors that assist with job training, parenting skills and after school programs to enhance the children's social skills and self-esteem. The families are referred by the Department of Children and Family Services.
The Family Preservation Program is an innovative partnership between the Children's Center and three Los Angeles County departments: Children and Family Services (DCFS), Mental Health and Probation. Referrals into our program are made through DCFS and Probation. Family Preservation is a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to strengthening and preserving families who are at risk, or who are experiencing problems in family functioning. The main goals are to assure the physical, emotional, social, educational and spiritual development of children in a safe, nurturing environment. This program provides an array of in-home and out-of-home services working in conjunction with our community partners and community resources. Ultimately, Family Preservation works to strengthen the needs of families to prevent out-of-home placement.
This program offers an alternative to traditional pre-schools
at two community-based, school-linked Family Resource Centers
located in East Lancaster and East Palmdale. The Program
includes: school-readiness programs for children in the 3-5
age range; one-to-one home-based instruction; family programs
that involve parents in the design and execution of school
readiness services for their children; a program to transition
children from pre-school to kindergarten; transportation
assistance; and neighborhood-based sites through which an
expansion of supportive family services (i.e., health care
for children) can be facilitated. The AVSRC - First 5 LA Program
promotes and supports the development of emerging parent
leaders who will take an active and supportive role in their
children's education.
